Notes on fitting and removing manifold and turbo.
There is adequate room between the engine and bulkhead for our equal length manifold and the turbocharger. But it requires some simple steps to get them there.
- Bulkhead heat shield needs to be removed, there will not be space to refit it so we shall cover bulkhead with an easily available heat reflecting foil.
- Manifold to cylinder head studs need to be removed and refitted while holding manifold and gasket in position for both installation and removal. We make life easy for ourselves now and subsequently by using new stainless steel studs with allen key hex holes in the ends.
- It is necessary to use a scissor jack or similar device to lean the engine towards the rear of the car while passing the turbo and manifold down past the engine camshaft ladder and cover. The engine must be supported from below while releasing the top and bottom engine mounts which stop for/aft engine movement. Once manifold and turbo are in position then mounts can be refitted.
- Feed turbo down before manifold when installing and bolt it to manifold flange after bolting manifold to cylinder head. Do the reverse for removal.
